bring back simplicity
Lately I have been noticing that it is hard to find the basics.
Simple, comfortable, beautiful ballet flats. Take the random things on the toe, they are not going to distract me from a not great flat.
Staple dark jeans. That have a great fit.
Simple is so much better than overdone.
The best way to demonstrate your skills, and set yourself apart from the rest, is to take something simple (an omelet if you're a chef, for example) and do it better than everyone else.

"finishing the race is half the battle"
-my dad, on the phone when I was walking into chem class with a cold yesterday morning.
When I was growing up my dad had an old sailboat and every Wednesday night in the summer I would go sailboat racing with him and his friends. (So fun!)
They were generally really bad at racing; we would always come in last. But, one season my dad was there at every race, and so he actually won the trophy that season! Hah, I think all the other boats were probably pissed.

staying in the work
Something that I have been thinking about a lot is that stuff that is good for us can often feel uncomfortable or unpleasant. For example: sitting on the couch=comfortable, running=uncomfortable; watching tv= comfortable, studying chemistry=uncomfortable.
But with dedication and and a whole lot of willpower, the uncomfortable begins to feel better, and sitting on the couch isn't as fulfilling as it might have been in the past.
The more you do, the more you can do :)
