"those

that manage to capture the imagination, make sales and grow are doing it by perfecting the things that matter and ignoring the rest.
Both parts are difficult, particularly when you are surrounded by people who insist on fretting about and working on the stuff that makes no difference at all."

spirituality and nutrition

great article

done

Yesterday I finished my classes at TCU; Microbiology and Biochemistry.  I started the semester not knowing if I could make it; I had never really commuted before (it takes about an hour to get to Fort Worth from Dallas), I didn't know anyone at TCU, and I felt lonely.  But, I pulled it together and made it through with good grades.

I still have a large mountain to climb, as grad school will be even more challenging, but I now know I can make it even when I have doubts.  So, if there is something that you really want to do and, don't get scared about the climb, and be open, you will never regret trying.

green smoothie

I have recently been starting my day with a tall glass of water with a squeeze of lemon or lime and this smoothie; I'm officially a smoothie convert.  This mix is really satisfying and it can be used as a starting point for what flavors you like and have at the moment (vanilla, cocoa, peanut butter, berries...), but the frozen banana is necessary; it gives this smoothie a creamy texture, sweetens the drink, and hides any green flavor

for one:

1/2 frozen banana
large handful of kale or spinach
4 roasted almonds
2 T ground flaxseed
3 strawberries
3 ice cubes
generous shake of cinnamon
1 c milk (I use unsweetened silk soymilk)
small piece of ginger
squeeze of lemon

combine all ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy

yummm.

Dallas fun

my mom came to visit me Thursday and we had the best last hurrah in Dallas; burgers at the commisary; shopping at northpark, beautiful morning run on the katy trail; breakfast at Central Market; dinner and drinks at the black friar.  so fun!

while we were sitting on the patio at the new central market (preston and royal), one of the managers brought us out these aprons; he was so friendly!  that central market is by far my favorite, everyone is so helpful and lots of cute boys shopping and working there.  I highly suggest checking it out!

my mom surprised me with these pretty flowers! Oh Dallas, when did I fall for you?

nutrition and the Alamo

For the past 2 years, I have been slowly accumulating science pre-requisites for coordinated Nutrition Master's/RD degrees.

I am happy to say that I got into Boston University!

In the meantime, I am Texas-ing it up:

Last night, my friend took me to hear Dave Lieber speak at her book club; he was hilarious and his spiel about his first year in Texas as a New York Jewish guy could not have been more perfect.

also, I made a last minute trip to San Antonio Thursday; less than 24 hours was plenty of time to riverwalk, fiesta, and finally make it through the Alamo.

landscaping

trees in a prius

I once read this quote about Kristen Wiig and how she had a million jobs before she started on SNL.  She would say something like, "this one time that I was a florist," or "this other time that I was a masseuse."  I love that because I have had a million jobs myself.
before...

Last Saturday, I added Landscaper to my repertoire.  I helped my friend landscape her house...so fun and such hard work; I have a great appreciation for the real landscapers/gardeners out there.  I love that about trying new things, the appreciation and interest that is sparked.
